FAQs – Newborn Photos with EKP
When should I book my newborn portrait session?
We encourage all expectant moms to contact us while they are still pregnant because we accept a limited number of babies each month to ensure our clients get our very best service and attention. We schedule sessions based on your expected due date but realize that babies often come on their own terms. As such, there is wiggle room built in to our schedule should your baby come early or late. Upon delivery, please reach out to us immediately so we can set your session date.
When is the best age to do a newborn portrait session?
We can photograph babies of any age, but the best time to photograph your new baby is within the first 10 days. After the second week, babies are a little harder to settle. They also get used to being out in the world & able to stretch. Issues like colic and baby acne can start to flare up as well.

Where do newborn portrait sessions take place?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all newborn sessions are now captured in the safety & comfort of your own home.
What if I don’t like my home, there isn’t enough space or light or it’s messy?
Many clients are unsure whether a newborn session will work in their home. Most homes are lived in & new babies can be stressful. Emily understands this. Seriously, don’t worry. Emily needs a minimal amount of space to capture newborn images. Generally a corner of a living room or bedroom/nursery will work just fine. She brings all of her own lighting so lighting shouldn’t be a concern. If you’re requesting some lifestyle family images, just tidy up the area where the portraits will take place. She generally uses the sofa in the living room or the bed in the master bedroom.
How long will my newborn photo session take?
Newborn sessions generally take 3-4 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding and comforting. Please understand that sessions are baby led and not all babies are comfortable in all poses. We encourage you to relax, play with baby throughout the morning, change baby’s diaper & then complete a full feed just before we arrive to ensure the success of the photo shoot. Pacifiers are also very helpful in moving through poses.
When will I see my images & how do I place my order?
About 10 days after your session, Emily will come back to your home for a Reveal. You’ll view your beautiful images for the first time, select your favorites & place your product order at your Reveal Appointment. Depending on the products chosen, your order may take up to 6 weeks to arrive. Please let us know, when ordering, if you need your order by a certain date. We accept all forms of payment including cash, check, major credit cards, PayPal & PayPal Credit. Payment plans are available.
